Our Story
Built by Someone Who Started Late, On Purpose Maggie Serrano earned her own cosmetology license at 42, and built the school she wished had existed for her.
This is why Mima’s exists the way it does.
It Started With a Single Step, Taken Late
Maggie Serrano got her cosmetology license at 42. Not at 18, not fresh out of high school, at 42, after life had already handed her every reason to believe it was too late. She built something for her three kids. Then she built a school that values the sacrifices it takes to get here, so that everyone who walks in has a family supporting them, the same way hers supported her.
That’s the reason Mima’s doesn’t require a GED or diploma, doesn’t lean on FAFSA, and builds business training into every single program. Not because it’s a trend in beauty education, because Maggie needed exactly that, and couldn’t find it.
It takes a team. Every student at Mima’s is treated as a business owner from day one, not just another enrollment number, because that’s what it takes to actually build a legacy, not just finish a program.
What Makes This School Different
No GED or Diploma Required
Your past education doesn’t determine whether you can build a career here. We choose not to work with the federal government’s diploma-on-file requirement so we can work with everyone.
Giving Back to Phoenix
Our students use their skills to serve the community directly, including free haircuts for food banks and low-income families through local partner events.
English, Spanish, and Real Life
Instruction, materials, and support are available in both languages, because your license shouldn’t depend on which one you’re more comfortable in.
A License Is the Starting Line, Not the Finish
Every program includes real business training, LLC formation, contracts, pricing, marketing, so graduates leave prepared to run something, not just work somewhere.
